Starwood began operations in December 1976 in Darlington, SC.\u00a0 Founded by Dale Locklair after his graduation from Clemson University with a degree in Ornamental Horticulture, he set out to create a full service landscape company.\u00a0 With a loan of $2,000 from his parents, Dale purchased some \u201cessential\u201d equipment ( i.e., an old pickup truck, garden hose, shovels, etc.) and with no other assets or income, he went to work.\u00a0 Knocking on doors, he quickly built an impressive reputation in the Pee Dee area.<\/p>\n

The following spring, brothers David and Randy joined the company while still in school at Clemson University.\u00a0 They worked summers and weekends when possible to help grow the company.\u00a0 Soon a Garden Center was opened and mom joined in to answer the phone and keep the books while the grandparents worked the Garden Center.\u00a0 Upon their dad\u2019s retirement from Dupont, he too joined the company and the family business was in full swing.<\/p>\n

In 1979, David Locklair graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Civil Engineering and Randy Locklair graduated the next year with a degree in Ornamental Horticulture.\u00a0 Seeking new challenges, the company began to work outside of the Darlington area.\u00a0 The company has successfully completed major landscape projects throughout South Carolina including Hilton Head, Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Columbia and out-of-state projects in Athens and Dalton Georgia and Maryville, Tennessee.<\/p>\n

For over 40 years, Starwood Landscaping has installed and maintained some of South Carolina\u2019s premier properties.\u00a0 Starwood has been proud to work with such distinguished architects as Pete Dye at the Ryder Cup Course on Kiawah Island, Robert E. Marvin at Columbia\u2019s Finley Park, and Greg Duckworth at the Grande Dunes Marina Inn in Myrtle Beach.<\/p>\n
